Spaying and neutering are surgical procedures that can be performed on both dogs and cats. Spaying is a procedure to remove the ovaries and uterus in female animals, while neutering removes testicles in male animals. These surgeries are recommended for all healthy pets before they reach sexual maturity.

The health benefits of spaying and neutering include:

  • Reduced risk of certain cancers, such as mammary gland tumors in female dogs and breast cancer in female cats.
  • Reduced risk of hormone-related diseases, such as uterine infections (pyometra) and testicular cancer in male dogs.
  • Reduced risk of undesirable behaviors, like roaming, urine marking, and aggression.

What to Expect From Your Pet’s Surgery

You’ll drop off your pet in the morning, and they’ll stay with us during the day for the procedure and for monitoring afterward to ensure their comfort. You can bring them home the same evening with appropriate pain management.

Before Surgery

We’ll complete a thorough examination, administer any necessary diagnostic tests, and perform pre-surgery blood testing.

During Surgery

We provide anesthesia with continuous monitoring to keep your pet safe and comfortable. Surgeries are performed on a warming table to keep your pet comfortable throughout the procedure.

After Surgery

To help ensure a successful, speedy recovery, we offer the following:

  • Post-operative pain management and monitoring.
  • Aftercare instructions to follow at home.
  • Follow-up appointments to monitor progress and remove stitches (if required).

At Hancock Animal Hospital & Rehabilitation Center, we’re dedicated to keeping your beloved pet healthy and happy. Get in touch with us today to learn more about our surgical services or to schedule an appointment.
